Enriching Our Community
The view from the highest point on our campus takes in the entire Salt Lake Valley and places beyond. That vista serves as a visual reminder of the many roles we play in improving the lives of our citizens and the economic well-being of our state. The University contributes in myriad ways to the quality of life enjoyed by people across Utah. We create educated leaders and informed citizens. We stimulate economic development, provide world-class health care, train the professionals who design our buildings, roads, and railways, and enhance our region's vibrant and varied cultural offerings.
We are proud of the many accomplishments of our remarkable alumni, and we recognize our profound responsibility to educate and serve the state's future generations. As an institution, we reach out to families and young people who might not have considered college a possibility and encourage them to think of a University of Utah education as a realistic and attainable goal.
Our efforts to integrate the University more deeply into the community are assisted, in very large measure, by the numerous community-based service learning opportunities offered by the Bennion Center and University Neighborhood Partners, among others—opportunities we will continue to develop and expand.
As the state’s flagship public research institution, the University of Utah touches countless lives, in countless places, in countless ways. Gifts that support the arts, the libraries, the museums and Red Butte Garden, athletic programs, public broadcasting, service learning programs, scholarships for first-generation students, health-care programs and facilities, and the cutting-edge entrepreneurial efforts of our research teams have the potential to transform lives not only in our immediate communities, but in communities around the world.
